Introduction
Buying a Flight Ticket
Flights do not normally have people playing bagpipes but they may offer chocolate Easter eggs during the festive period. If you are hesitating to buy a flight ticket because it is too expensive or does not fit in with your schedule then a secret travel tip is to take a closer look at Skyscanner and Google Flights.
Skyscanner
Choose your departing country then select Scotland as your travel destination which will monitor the price based on the month. You can then filter your prices by selecting the cheapest month on both departure and return columns as shown below.
After selecting the departure and arrival airport, the list of prices will appear and you can select the date that suits your needs. Insider Secret provides tips on the cheapest day to travel which is Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Catey Hill wrote in her blog that it wasn’t cheap to buy ticket on Tuesday and that Wednesday and Sunday is the cheapest day. At least, they both agree that Wednesday is cheapest day to travel and that planning will save you money.
Google Flight
I came across Google Flights when I went to Malaysia for a short escape. It was cheap to travel here and this website helped monitor the price. A great tip that I learned here was to avoid travelling on public holidays and bank holidays. It could cost you twice as much. You can see the price comparisons for 11 months after you select the preferred date and place.
Packing Your Luggage
Are you too excited and worried in case you bring the entire house with you? If you plan to migrate this will be fine but if you are planning for a short escape, it is best to be efficient. Here are some tips on how to pack for your vacation.
Luggage or Backpack
If you plan to stay in the hostel and walk around with your bag then go with the backpack but if you are on a business trip, it is more efficient to bring a suitcase. Most international airlines provide check-in luggage. If you register on their page and subscribe for the newsletter you will acquire better information. Lavendaire shares tips on how to pack your carry-on luggage. Vagabrothers also have a great tip for backpack travellers.
Items Checklist
If you are from Scotland it is not necessary for you to have a passport or visa. Some foreign counties require a visa before you are allowed to enter Scotland. Visit GOV.UK for further clarification on whether you need a visa or passport. In case your phone gets stole or your luggage arrives later than expected, you will have a copy with yourself. Perhaps consider taking travel insurance with Axa Travel Insurance for better security during your travel period.
Money
It is recommended that you have money in your own currency and the Great British Pound (GBP). You should also check with the bank to ensure that your bank card is activated for overseas. You can give them a call and inform them your travel period and set a limit on it in case you get into trouble or overspending.
Toiletries
Make sure you pack all your necessary toiletries in a clear, measured travel bottle because you cannot exceed the limit of 100ml for each liquid container. Further information, you can visit Tom Shurville's page.
REMEMBER, undertake some research (not wikipedia) about the area you will visit and the current season to allow you to plan wisely.

DeleteDon't skimp on insurance either. It might seem like a waste of money but it's super important to get a comprehensive insurance or you might regret not spending that extra £15 when you find morning is covered!
